What Is EURC? The Euro Stablecoin Guide for Merchants

USDC gets most of the attention, but Circle also issues a euro-backed stablecoin called EURC. For merchants serving European customers — or anyone who wants to receive payments denominated in euros — EURC is a game-changer.

What is EURC?

EURC (Euro Coin) is a fully-reserved euro stablecoin issued by Circle. Like USDC, each EURC token is backed 1:1 by euro-denominated reserves. 1 EURC is always worth 1 EUR. It follows the same regulatory and transparency standards as USDC, with regular reserve attestations.

EURC is MiCA-compliant, meeting the European Union's Markets in Crypto-Assets regulation. This makes it one of the most regulation-friendly stablecoins for European merchants.

EURC vs USDC

  • Currency peg — EURC is pegged to EUR, USDC is pegged to USD
  • Issuer — both issued by Circle with the same transparency standards
  • Chain support on Fivo — EURC is available on Ethereum, Base, and Avalanche. USDC is available on all 9 chains.
  • Cross-chain — CCTP cross-chain transfers are USDC-only. EURC payments are same-chain only.
  • Use case — EURC is ideal for euro-denominated pricing, European customers, and avoiding USD/EUR conversion fees

Where is EURC supported on Fivo?

Fivo supports EURC on three chains:

  • Ethereum — the original chain for EURC with highest liquidity
  • Base — low-fee L2 with Coinbase ecosystem integration
  • Avalanche — high-performance L1 with sub-second finality
EURC payments are same-chain only — the customer must be on the same chain as the merchant. Cross-chain EURC via CCTP is not yet supported by Circle.

Why accept EURC?

If you price products in euros, accepting EURC means no currency conversion. A customer paying 50 EUR sends 50 EURC, and you receive exactly 50 EURC. No FX spreads, no conversion fees, no price fluctuation. This is particularly valuable for:

  • European e-commerce stores
  • SaaS products with EUR pricing tiers
  • Freelancers working with European clients
  • Travel and hospitality businesses in the EU

How to accept EURC with Fivo

When you register a Fivo merchant account, you can select EURC as an accepted currency alongside or instead of USDC. The payment widget will show EURC as a payment option for your customers. Setup is identical to USDC — just add the widget embed to your site.

The future of EURC

With MiCA regulation creating a clear legal framework for stablecoins in Europe, EURC adoption is accelerating. As Circle expands EURC to more chains and adds CCTP support, the use case for euro-denominated on-chain payments will only grow. By accepting EURC now, you're positioning your business ahead of this trend.
